All-State Music Festival
Each year the New Mexico Music Educators Association (NMMEA) holds its annual All-State Music Festival and IN-Service Conference. It is held in the first two weeks of January on the campus of the University of New Mexico (UNM). This year All-State will be held on January 10-13, 2018 and marks the 74th NMMEA All-State. Students from the entire state of New Mexico audition in the fall for a position in one of eight All-State ensembles including three bands, two choirs, two orchestras, and one guitar ensemble. Their audition is scoring and ranked by a panel of adjudicators and based on their audition scores students with the highest scores are placed in one of the eight ensembles.
Over 940 students are selected to the eight All-State ensembles. Nationally renowned guest conductors are hired to rehearse each ensemble for two full days culminating in a full day of concerts held in UNM’s Popejoy Hall on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Tickets for the All-State concerts are $7.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.
