Join the NMPhil and guest conductor Alejandro Gómez Guillén for a vibrant evening of music that moves both body and soul. Saxophonist Christopher Creviston takes center stage in two works for saxophone and orchestra. The program begins with Weber's dramatic Overture to Der Freischütz, a cornerstone of Romanticism. Acclaimed saxophonist Christopher Creviston takes center stage in two expressive American works: John Anthony Lennon's Escapades, a dynamic, jazz-inflected suite full of rhythmic sparkle and cinematic flair; and Portrait of a Peaceful Scene by Michael "Mickey" Tucker, offering lyrical warmth and emotional depth. After intermission, Strum by GRAMMY® Award-winning composer Jessie Montgomery brings the string section to life with layered textures and infectious rhythmic energy, drawing from American folk and chamber traditions. The evening culminates with Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition in the brilliant orchestration by Ravel, a vivid musical gallery that brings paintings to life through bold orchestral color and unforgettable themes.
